Electrical Testing

Periodic electrical testing, also known as Electrical Inspection Condition Report (EICR) is a complete and comprehensive inspection of your home’s electrical system and installation.

Homeowners are not required by law to complete periodic testing of their electrical systems, however businesses and landlords are required to do so.

Whilst it is not a legal requirement, it can be a useful part of the buying or selling process to check the home’s electrics, in the same way you might service your boiler or your car.

What does Electrical Testing Involve?

An electrical test will check if your home’s electrical installation has any faults which are not easily identifiable with a quick visual check.

A number of faults could occur, such as circuits overheating, or becoming overloaded during use.  If circuits are not correctly installed, it could easily become a fire or shock hazard.

When the test is complete, you will be provided with a certificate, often referred to as an Electrical Inspection Condition Report (EICR), outlining any damage, problems or dangerous areas within your electrical system.
